Saint Archer's Brewery and Tasting Room

4.30.2014

Two or three weeks ago, I was enjoying a Saint Archer's White Ale (which has swiftly become one of my go-to's on tap this spring) with lunch and thinking about how I had never tried this particular brewery before.

Because the universe works in funny ways, a few days later, I received an email letting me know that local brewery, Saint Archer's had just started canning their beers. I'd had no idea that St. A's was a local brewery so I reached out and asked for a tour. They agreed and last Thursday my bestie Bonnie and I headed there for a few drinks after work.

With Yiga, one of the two Brew Masters and  the Director of Brewing Operations, who kindly gave us a tour

When we arrived, we met up with Yiga, their Director of Brewing Operation and Head Brewer, and their VP of Marketing, Adam, two super nice dudes that stayed late to give us a tour. They showed us around and talked about just how far the brewery has come (spoiler alert: crazy growth in one year... this place is blowing up). They also showed us the new canning machines, which were pretty neat to learn about.

Aside from their delicious beer, rad dog-friendly space, and staggering list of action sport ambassadors, one of the coolest things about Saint Archer's is that one of their two Brew Masters is a woman, Kim Lutz. In my daytime life, I'm a recruiter and I recently had a conversation with two recruiters from Anheuser-Busch about their needle-in-a-haystack hunt for talented female brewers.

At the time, I naively implied to them that they may be looking in the wrong place (we were at a conference in Seattle), but then I talked to a couple of brewers and brewery workers here in San Diego about the female brewing population. As it turns out, it's pretty much next to nil. So for Saint Archer's to have scooped up Kim as one of their two Head Brewers is pretty cool.

But the coolness didn't stop there. Food trucks swing by the tasting room at least 4 days a week (Thurs-Sun). And as we were saying our goodbyes, Adam told me that they're going to start having yoga in the brewery on Saturday mornings.

Yoga + beer?!

Starting this Saturday, May 3rd, Saint Archer's will host Hoppy Yoga in their huge tasting room space. The vinyasa flow style classes will be $15, which includes a beer after class. Bring your own mat and get hoppy with your fellow craft beer loving yogis!
